Most bed in box mattresses are compressed under thousands of kilograms of force and then folded into a tight box.
The act of folding creates huge amounts of pressure and wear at the crease points, leading to foam failure and dipping, often after a coupe of years.
O+L mattresses are rolled into a cylinder, and are allowed to occupy more volume, leading to consistently even sleep surface and leaving foams in great shape.
Not all mattress foams are created equal.
Unlike most bed in box mattresses, O+L mattresses use high density foams (greater than 30d) that offer the same feeling but with considerably better lifetime durability.
These foams out-perform almost all natural materials over the course of their life.
These materials are heavier, more expensive, but make for a mattress that lasts.
Every element of the mattress is selected for a balance of durability and comfort.
The best mattresses are hand tufted.
Hand tufting means a super-strong tufting thread is passed through the mattress by hand, to hold each side and the materials together.
This technique reduces our reliance on glue, which eventually break down over time.

Airsilk™ delivers a sleep experience that’s been honed for years to be both indulgent and supportive.
The layers of the mattress are progressively more supportive, starting with a cradling memory foam topper (incorporating four layers of quilted filling) and 2.5cm nano springs.
Core support is provided by 18cm individually pocketed support coils built in O+L’s unique multi-tension configuration, meaning they provide similar support under varying loads.
Our team has been building 5* hotels and custom hotel bedding for two decades, so we know how to make a mattress that lasts.
Airsilk is based on a design we developed for a new 5* hotel chain that was looking to perfect its sleeping environment, while reducing the weight and footprint of the original O+L mattress (making it easier for staff to handle).
It was so beloved by the hotel and by us, that we decided to launch it as a separate product.
Hotels require extreme durability, comfort and longevity. That’s why the contents of Airsilk use the highest grade textiles, foams, construction and springs you can find (and some additional comfort features we don’t include in our hotel version, such as leather handles).
If the O+L original mattress is the Rolls Royce of mattresses, Airsilk™ is undoubtedly the Aston Martin. Lighter, sleeker, but just as high-performance.
Because of the slightly modified topper and a different configuration of interior foams, Airsilk is also a touch softer than the original. Full comparison below.

Springs, not spring counts are special to us. At the core of Airsilk™ is a unique patent-pending variable-tension spring, individually encased in a fabric pocket.
Each spring is designed to depress similarly across a range of weights, meaning a lighter person is supported like a heavier one.
Airsilk™ incorporates a 2.5cm nano-coil layer nearer the surface. These even out the pressure and add luxurious softness. It’s true that each Airsilk™ mattress has thousands of springs (about 3000 in an Emperor) but it’s the quality, not the quantity, that really matters.
How does the Owl + Lark Mattress feel? Like a perfect fitting shoe, a mattress should feel incredibly soft and snug, but must hold your body correctly.
The Owl +Lark Mattress is best described as Medium Plush, but the feel is so much more than that. It’s soft, but also supportive and cradling. Because of its depth, it can suit a wide range of body-types and sleeping styles – side, back, front and partner-disturbing sleep-invader style.
Over time, the Mattress will mould slightly to the sleeper, making it fit even better. We know that one mattress can’t be perfect for everyone, and that the experience of softness is subjective. We suggest trying it for at least 30 days to see how well it works for you.
We offer a free 101 night trial. If by the end you haven’t transformed your sleep for the better, we’ll gladly take it back for free.

The combined recommended weight limit for Airsilk™ is 300kg. It is safe to use the mattress with greater weight, although excess dipping would in this case not be covered by warranty.
Because an Owl + Lark mattress has more supporting and comfort layers it’s substantially deeper than a normal mattress – around 30 cm.

Finding the right mattress is really important, you spend more than a third of your life in bed. Research and studies demonstrate that testing mattresses in a shop isn’t the best way to find the right one.
It takes your body 4-6 weeks to adjust to a new mattress, which means that lying and bouncing on a mattress in a shop doesn’t allow you to determine the best mattress for your long-term comfort and support. It can also take time to get used to the feel of a new mattress.
So you get to try the Owl + Lark mattress for 101 nights in the comfort of your own home.
